Son Thankful for Care Provided to His Dad from ProMedica Palliative Care and ProMedica Hospice

I wanted to reach out about our recent experience with your palliative care team and hospice team who helped care for my father.
We came to know about ProMedica when my father was in the hospital and his best course at the time was to receive palliative care. We met Misty Falco, ARNP. Once Misty took over care, I must say she really went above and beyond for my dad and my family. She took calls over weekends and would always make time to talk through something going on. Misty did a great job to get information to our family about his terminal condition. I’m a 21-year nursing veteran and her care was top notch. To the point I work in post-secondary education for physician Assistant with a specialization in surgery. Palliative care is something that is not talked about enough. Misty is a great resource for providers here in Wichita and the surrounding areas.
Last week, we had to make the pivot to hospice. We were met with Nikki to go over all the hospice requirements, resources and so on. Nikki was amazing to work with and helped us have a better understanding of hospice. She immediately discussed my dad’s condition with the medical director and just as she said she would, she called us back with updates to help keep my dad comfortable. We also met Dad’s nurse, Julie, last week. The care and compassion she showed meant a lot for the family. She came in, took her time to really have a good idea of what would be needed and ensured further updates were done and followed up with right away. I just don’t have enough good things to say about everyone we worked with. I’m looking forward to the additional help with the social worker and follow-up care team as well.
Yesterday morning my dad passed away. Julie was 2nd on-call and we happened to get ahold of her, and she hopped in her car and drove straight to Wichita from her home to be with Dad. My dad had said after he met her last week, ‘he had a good feeling about her’. Yesterday he was aware, but just wouldn’t wake up. As soon as he knew all of his family was around and also learned Julie was there, he relaxed a bit, laid back and took his last breath. It’s my belief he knew everyone was there and we were all okay for him to go ahead and let go and be in a better place.
Again, I just want all of ProMedica, ProMedica Palliative Care and ProMedica Hospice Serving Wichita, to know the care that was delivered meant so much to our family. We are thankful for everyone that was involved in his care. I do hope this gets shared with the team, so they all know what impact they have made on us. I also hope this makes it to ProMedica leadership, so they know the services in Wichita, KS is doing right by the community as it grows.
Thank you for all you do!
