ProMedica Hospice Volunteer Creates Memory Bears for Families and Loved Ones

We depend on our hospice volunteers to help us provide the love, respect and care our patients and families need. Some volunteers interact directly with patients and families, while others prefer to work “behind the scenes”.

Pam McMahon, craft volunteer for ProMedica Hospice Serving Chicagoland North, creates memory bears using an article of clothing from the patient for their loved ones after they have passed. These keepsake bears help during the grieving process and become a special reminder of love.

When asked why Pam has taken on this heartfelt project, she said, “I volunteer to make keepsake memory bears for so that family members have a lasting memory of their loved one for many years to come. Seeing a bear sitting in your home wearing a favorite article of clothing from someone dear to you, will forever bring a smile and possibly a bit of laughter to your day.”
